Compress a PDF without flattening the text
PDFLoom reduces a PDF's size by recompressing and downsizing the pictures inside it, and leaves text, fonts and vector graphics untouched. The result stays searchable. It runs on your device, so nothing is uploaded.
Smaller file, same text
Only embedded images are recompressed. Text stays selectable, searchable and sharp at any zoom.
Three quality levels
Choose High quality, Balanced or Smallest file. The result shows how much smaller it got and how many images were shrunk.
Flatten option for scans
For scans that are already one big image per page, Flatten pages can shrink them further. It makes text unselectable, so it's opt-in.
Safe by default
Anything it can't re-encode faithfully is left as it was, and if there's nothing worth shrinking, the file is left unchanged.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reduce a PDF's file size?
Open it in PDFLoom, choose Compress, pick a quality level, and save. Image-heavy PDFs shrink the most.
Will compressing make the text unsearchable?
Not in the default mode. Text is untouched. Only the Flatten pages option turns text into an image.
Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
A PDF that's mostly text has little to shrink. The size is mostly in its images.
